Medical Assistant Diploma Program

medical assisting professionals

Students who complete the Medical Assisting program at MTI College graduate with skills that make them ready to work in a wide range of positions within the healthcare industry in Sacramento or anywhere else in the country. Our medical assisting courses will give students knowledge and abilities that will help them in the healthcare career of their choice. Medical assistants can work alongside doctors and other medical technicians in a wide variety of healthcare positions and fields. There is a high demand for healthcare workers in primary physician offices, clinics and diagnostic laboratories, among other locations across the country.

MTI offers a Billing and Coding certificate program in addition to their Medical Assistant certification program. If students choose to do so, they can also earn certification in a phlebotomy program while they are attending MTI College's healthcare school.

TThe Medical Assisting Program at MTI College is endorsed by the American Medical Technologists association, as well as the National Center for Competency Testing. Although the Medical Assisting program is structured to help students get ready for the California Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam and become certified, students of the program can also take the Registered Medical Assisting Exam (RMA) or the National Certified Medical Assisting Exam (NCMA) through the campus' Learning Resource Center once they have graduated.

Medical Assisting Training

Through their healthcare education, students in the Medical Assisting field will achieve proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, and the proper protocols and procedures used in clinical environments. Each student in the Medical Assisting program is required to finish a 160-hour unpaid off-campus Medical Externship along with his or her standard course requirements in order to graduate.

Once they are finished with the program, Sacramento medical assistants will be able to perform a diverse range of duties. Graduates of the program will be able to take medical histories and log vital signs, prepare patients for medical examinations, assist the primary physician during medical examinations, collect and prepare specimens, perform basic laboratory tests, sterilize medical instruments, draw blood and take electrocardiograms. Upon completing the program, graduates will also be able to take care of front office tasks, such as insurance coding and billing, medical chart maintenance, preparing reports and correspondence, scheduling and booking appointments, as well as greeting patients. The goal of this Sacramento Medical Assisting program is to create well-rounded students with the skills necessary to succeed in the professional world.
